RACE INFORMATION

GENERAL INFORMATION

Time Limit

There is a 3.5 hour time limit that the course is closed to traffic and the aid stations are available. However, we may open sections of the course to let vehicles cross when there are large gaps in the participants and it is deemed safe. Participants must maintain at least a 14 minute per mile half marathon pace to make the course deadline. The course time limit is set by the City of Lake Ozark and law enforcement. It cannot be extended. Your races must be completed within the time limit or you will be scored as a DNF.

Is the course certified?

The courses used this year are not certified.

What is the average temperature during this time of year?

Well, the AVERAGE temperature is mid-60s. However, the temperature could range from 30 to 80 degrees! The weather in Missouri is know for changing drastically within 24 hours. The weather adds to the adventure! Although we have had wonderful weather, we  have also had sun, rain, and snow. Runners are tough and can brave it all!

Are walkers allowed?

We do not have a separate category for walkers, but people can walk the half, 10K and 5K, Walkers must be aware of the 3.5 hour time limit. A minimum pace of 14 minutes per mile must be maintained to make the course. Walkers are asked to line up at the back of the runners at the start.

Where is the best place for family and friends to cheer?

There are many places along the route for spectators to park. There is NO parking on the shoulder of the road. We are keeping one lane of traffic open to allow for spectators to meet their runners at different locations along the route so we will need to utilize the shoulder to ensure maximum safety. The Brick House Gastropub at 1333 Bagnell Dam Blvd. will be open for viewing the race and will have a live stream of the race on TVs.  No purchase necessary! Stewart's restaurant has moved up the strip to 1260 Bagnell Dam Blvd on the opposite side of the road.  They will have free coffee outside and offer 10% discounts to runners who show their bib number.

Is the course(s) hilly?

Lake of the Ozarks is hilly but the hills bring the reward! Train for hills once a week, and you will be running over those hills with ease enjoying the challenge! Set your mind right..."it is not the hill.  It is what you tell yourself about the hill."

A favorite quote from a race participant is, "it was hard, but it was good!"

Do you have a virtual run?

We do have virtual registrations if you are unable to make it to the race. There is an additional charge for a virtual run to cover the costs of mailing medals and shirts to participants.

Virtual runners should run the distance they have signed up for sometime within a few weeks either side of the race, and send a screen shot of their run details to kwiesen@fca.org  If you don't have a running watch a note will do.       Items will be mailed to virtual runners a few weeks after the race.

If you sign up as a traditional runner, you can switch to the virtual run until 7 days prior to the race. There will be an additional charge of $5 to make the change.

Is the race rain (or snow) or shine?

It is always our intention to complete the race as scheduled and every attempt will me made to do so if it is safe. Our inclement weather policy is as follows:

In the case of rain and thunderstorms on race day we will enact the following safety measures. Our goal is to do everything in our power to host a complete race. We will delay or shorten race courses only if necessary. Cancellation is our very last resort and will only be considered after all of the following measures have been taken on race day.

  • In the case of only rain or clear weather we will plan for on-time starts and complete all races as planned.
  • In the case of lightning we will delay the race starts to at least 15 minutes after the last lightning strike within the area. We will not race on course if lightning is present, but will continue to race when the lightning ceases and has moved from the area.
  • If lightning is present during a race we will stop the race and ask athletes to leave the course. Athletes wishing to continue may get back on course 15 minutes after the last lightning strike. Any racer wanting to continue will do so at their own risk. Once we are clear of lightning we will restart or continue the race.
  • In the case of prolonged lightning and storms in the area, we will consider a later race start after consulting with law enforcement and the National Weather Service.
  • If inclement weather is predicted we may adjust race courses, race distances or eliminate segments of the race so to keep athletes safe.
